On the afternoon of June 13, the People's Committees of Kien Giang and An Giang provinces held an online meeting to listen to a report on the preparation for the operation of the new An Giang province.
The conference listened to support teams report the results of implementing tasks on the reorganization of the apparatus of administrative agencies and service units at the provincial level after the merger.
After receiving the Central Government's policy and studying and referring to the policies that the provinces have developed, on June 12, 2025, the Department of Home Affairs of Kien Giang held a meeting to collect opinions from the Department of Finance, the Department of Home Affairs of An Giang province and the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Committee, the Provincial People's Council, the Department of Finance, and the Department of Justice of Kien Giang province to agree on the proposal to develop a Resolution regulating the support regime for cadres, civil servants, public employees and workers after the arrangement of administrative units. Expected support for travel, living expenses, accommodation, the highest support level is 6.5 million VND/person/month.
According to document No. 863 of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee on the expected demand for public housing, rental housing and means of transportation when merging provinces, a total of 1,662 cadres, civil servants and public employees have registered. The plan to organize an electric bus route to support the travel of cadres, civil servants and public employees of the province after the merger is expected.
The plan is to arrange 40 to 50 vehicles. Of which, there are 35 specialized vehicles serving the pick-up/ drop-off of officers, civil servants and public employees at fixed daily hours. There are 10 to 15 specialized vehicles to serve, promptly meeting the travel needs of people, ensuring safety, convenience and limiting travel by private vehicles. Because the number of cadres and civil servants in many different agencies should be arranged with many pick-up and drop-off points for convenient travel.
At the meeting, Chairman of An Giang Provincial People's Committee Ho Van Mung requested departments and branches to urgently complete preparations to merge the two provinces; urgently agree on personnel, basically by June 17.
The Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Committee requested the two sides to urgently review and agree on the targets and tasks before June 20. Urgently prepare to report to the Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees of both sides about the working headquarters, accommodation, means, regimes, and policies for cadres and civil servants traveling to work and prepare for the ceremony to announce the merger of the two provinces.
Chairman of Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Nhan requested departments and branches to review working headquarters on a scale to ensure the number of employees. Kien Giang has assigned the Department of Construction to arrange housing and means of transportation for officials and civil servants as well as meet the travel needs of the people. The Department of Home Affairs of the two provinces calculates the regime and policies for cadres from An Giang to Kien Giang to work and vice versa. Kien Giang reviews housing funds, rental places can arrange public housing for officials and civil servants; the rest of the people do not have public housing, can receive direct funding support.
After the merger, the new An Giang province has a total of 102 new commune-level administrative units (85 communes, 14 wards, 3 special zones), a decrease of 196 commune-level administrative units compared to before the arrangement (reaching 65.77%).
