On August 8, Mr. Nguyen Minh Cuong - Deputy Head of Department of Environmental Management and Climate Change (Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ben Tre Province) - said that the relocation of waste at Ben Tre waste treatment plant (now renamed into an electric generating solid waste fuel - PV) to Phu Hung landfill has been completed. The People's Committee of Chau Thanh District is conducting ground clearance for households affected by the project. Up to now, the authorities of Chau Thanh district are applying compensation prices and supporting households.
According to Mr. Cuong, departments and branches of Ben Tre province and Chau Thanh District People's Committee are coordinating to guide investors to prepare environmental impact reports and project feasibility studies to submit to the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Ministry of Construction for approval.
On May 5, the Working Group of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee issued a plan to implement the investment in a solid waste incineration plant for power generation. According to this plan, the investment procedures for solid waste incineration plants are expected to be implemented within 243 days ( starting from January 20 and ending on September 20, 2025); the construction period is expected to be implemented within 648 days (starting from September 20, 2025 and ending on June 30, 2027).
Earlier, on January 20, 2025, the People's Committee of Ben Tre Province issued Decision No. 199 on approving the adjustment of investment policies and at the same time approving investment. According to this Decision, the People's Committee of Ben Tre Province approved the adjustment of the investment policy of Ben Tre waste treatment plant project to adjust into a project of generating solid waste waste plant, the scale of investment in construction of 650 tons/day and night, the power generation capacity of 15 MW. The total investment of this project is more than VND 1,919 billion.
The project will start construction in the third quarter of 2025, complete the procedures for trial operation, certification, acceptance and put the project into official operation in the fourth quarter of 2027.
