On December 17, at a business dialogue organized by the Khanh Hoa provincial government, a number of tourism businesses proposed that the locality should reconsider the ban on cars with 29 seats or more entering the center of Nha Trang city.
Mr. Pham Minh Nhut - Vice President of Nha Trang-Khanh Hoa Tourism Association, has the opinion that traffic congestion in Nha Trang recently is only a local phenomenon, occurring mainly during festival events.
Instead of banning vehicles, Mr. Pham Minh Nhut suggested that the government should regulate and divide traffic reasonably.
He cited the example of the intersection between Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and To Hien Thanh streets, or along Tran Phu street, where technology taxis and electric cars are parked everywhere.
Therefore, when the 29-seat car arrived at the hotel to pick up and drop off guests, there was no place to stop and it had to park right on the road, leading to traffic jams.
"If the ban is only on a few routes, it should be banned all over Nha Trang, because it will greatly affect local tourism development," said Mr. Nhut.
Responding to the opinions of tourism businesses, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Tan Tuan stated that tourism and travel businesses need to change their operations immediately because in the development process, it is impossible for cars with more than 29 seats to carry tourists to the hotel door.
In addition, businesses must calculate other options to transport customers to the city center, to hotels and tourist attractions.
“Tran Phu Street is so small but it is crowded with cars. Meanwhile, tourism and travel businesses, what are you contributing to improve the green - clean - beautiful environment of Nha Trang city?” - Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee raised the issue.
Regarding the local viewpoint, Chairman of Khanh Hoa said that he is ready to accompany and share if tourism and travel businesses work with the province to build Nha Trang into a civilized, friendly and clean tourist destination.
Mr. Nguyen Tan Tuan also suggested the possibility that Tran Phu beach could become a walking street along the Nha Trang coast.
In early December 2024, Khanh Hoa province agreed to ban all cars with more than 29 seats, including vehicles with "tourist car" badges, from entering the center of Nha Trang during rush hours.
According to statistics, the Department of Transport of Khanh Hoa province has issued “tourist car” badges to 450 cars with more than 29 seats, and is continuing to receive applications and issue badges to qualified vehicles. In addition, vehicles with badges from other provinces and cities operating in Nha Trang are not included.
After the survey, the authorities found that cars with more than 29 seats, including vehicles with the "tourist car" badge, circulated a lot in Nha Trang city during rush hour.
This causes traffic congestion on central city roads, especially sections with many restaurants, hotels, offices, schools...
