On January 5, information from the Long Thanh International Airport Project Management Board (Long Thanh airport), the 2nd runway is being accelerated for construction, exceeding the initial contract schedule.
According to information from Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV), package 4.12 - construction of the 2nd runway at the Long Thanh airport project was mobilized by a joint venture of contractors with more than 283 engineers and workers with 127 motorbikes and equipment serving construction.
The contractor consortium has simultaneously deployed foundation, road foundation, drainage construction teams...
Package 4.12 was started on May 30, 2025 by the joint venture ACC - Truong Son - Vinaconex - Vinadic - ACJC647-Khanh Thien-VTG. ACV is continuing to mobilize personnel, machinery and equipment in the near future to ensure completion and commissioning in June 2026 according to the required schedule.
ACV has directed the contractor consortium to maximize weather to deploy construction. To be proactive in supply and not to let progress be interrupted, more than 100,000 m3 of materials have also been gathered at the construction site right from the initial stage.
The second runway has a scale of 4 km long and 75m wide.
The contract value is 2,570.36 billion VND (of which 2,364.73 billion VND is construction value, excluding provisions for fees).
Component Project 3 - Essential works in the Airport belongs to the Long Thanh International Airport Construction Investment Project phase 1 invested by ACV, including 14 bidding packages.
Phase 1 scale of the project with 2 runways, 1 passenger terminal and synchronous auxiliary items with a capacity of 25 million passengers/year; 1.2 million tons of cargo/year.
The project has a total investment of more than 99,000 billion VND, basically completed in 2025; put into operation and commercial exploitation in the first half of 2026.
In parallel, implementing the direction of the Prime Minister, ACV has submitted Submission No. 4219/TTr-TCTCHKVN dated September 24, 2025, reporting to the Government, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Construction to immediately deploy the 3rd runway and phase 2 of Long Thanh International Airport in accordance with the law.
