On the afternoon of August 30, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai - Chairman of the People's Committee of Ben Quan Commune (Quang Tri Province) said that heavy rain from storm No. 6 caused serious landslides on DT 571.
At Km 25+750, the roadbed was eroded for about 30m, making it completely impossible for vehicles to travel. People had to walk through the landslide to reach other routes.
In addition, on DT 571, there are many other damaged locations such as deep landslides, peeling and cracked road surfaces, and severely damaged sewers. In particular, the Khe Tien bridge area (Km 5+200) had its foundation eroded; at Km 23+450, the roadbed was eroded 15m long; many sections of the embankment were eroded, causing unsafe risks.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Hai said that since the beginning of 2024, this road has been damaged many times, temporarily repaired but continues to deteriorate every time there are floods. Currently, the local government has reported to the Department of Construction and proposed urgent solutions to ensure the safety of the people.
According to the Department of Construction of Quang Tri province, the entire route DT 571 is under great pressure due to storms and floods, posing a serious risk of landslides if not reinforced in time. This is a vital traffic route, the landslides not only cause traffic disruption but also directly affect the lives of residents in the mountainous areas of western Quang Tri.
