Thai Nguyen - The section of National Highway 3 through Thanh Thinh Commune has just been repaired and has seen subsidence, cracking, peeling, and erosion of the embankment, posing a potential safety risk.

National Highway 3 (QL.3) is a vital traffic route connecting Thai Nguyen - Bac Kan (old), playing an important role in trade and economic development of the region.

However, in some sections of the route that have just been repaired, subsidence and damage have appeared, directly threatening the safety of traffic participants.

According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper at the end of July 2025, at Km129+428.7 - Km131 through Thanh Thinh Commune (formerly in Cho Moi District, Bac Kan), signs of damage have appeared.

On the road, large patches of peeling, the plastic layer is broken and patched, revealing the layer of gravel and rocks below.

The cracks run along the edge of the road, about ten meters long, with some cracks opening into gaps.

Part of the embankment roof has collapsed, exposing a layer of loose, loose rock and soil. If there is prolonged heavy rain, there is a potential risk of widespread landslides, affecting the road structure.

Regularly traveling on this route, Mr. Nguyen Van Kien (Cho Moi) said that the cracked road surface makes him feel insecure and worried every time he travels here.

According to Mr. Kien, every day, the traffic volume on the route is very large, if not observed, they can crash into cracks and subsidence, posing a potential risk of accidents.

"The road lacks lighting, at night there are many potential risks, especially for motorbikes. If anyone accidentally goes into a crack, lands and falls onto the road, it will be very dangerous. However, because this is the main traffic axis, even though I am worried, there is still no other choice," Mr. Kien shared.

According to the reporter's investigation, this road section is included in the "Construction of works (road section)" package of the project to handle traffic safety points on National Highway 3 invested by the Department of Transport of Bac Kan province (old).

The project consists of three sections: Km129+428.7 - Km131+171.9; Km131+900 - Km133+881.2 and Km135+723.2 - Km140+500. The total value is more than 31.3 billion VND, the implementation period is 240 days, deployed from 2024.

The package was constructed by a joint venture of Road Joint Stock Company 232 and Quyet Thang Company Limited and the section where subsidence and cracking occurred was in the first part of the package.

Informing the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, a leader of Thanh Thinh Commune People's Committee (Thai Nguyen) confirmed that the section of National Highway 3 passing through the area is currently showing signs of cracked and damaged road surfaces.

This leader said that the initial cause was determined to be the impact of recent storms.

"Immediately after the discovery, the locality requested relevant units to promptly take measures and solutions to ensure safe traffic for people," the commune leader shared more.
