Ho Chi Minh City has just awarded the architectural plan award for the main overpass item under component project 2: Upgrading the North-South axis road (section from Nguyen Van Linh road to Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway), invested in BOT form (build - operate - transfer).
The first prize belonged to the design plan of the Consortium of B.R Design Consulting Co., Ltd. and NDA Vietnam Co., Ltd.

The North-South main road upgrade project (Nguyen Huu Tho road) is more than 8 km long, expanding the road surface to 60 m, with elevated roads in the middle of the route about 6.62 km long.
The elevated road is designed with a cross-section of 18.5 m, arranged with 4 car lanes (2 lanes in each direction) speed of 80 km/h, going between the main route and completely separated from the civil parallel road system below.

On the overpass, only cars are allowed to circulate, no lanes are arranged for motorbikes and rudimentary vehicles, in order to ensure the role of a fast transport route, continuous traffic, and not affected by intersections or parking situations.
The up and down branches of the bridge are located in the Rach Dia bridge area, near the Nguyen Van Tao intersection and the section in the middle of the route (area of the road intersection connecting warehouse B).
These branches directly connect with parallel roads on both sides, helping to reasonably divert traffic, serving the travel needs of people and the operation of industrial parks without putting pressure on high-speed vehicles on overpasses.

Along with the elevated road, parallel roads will be built on both sides of the ground, with 3 lanes on each side, a maximum speed of 60 km/h, meeting the needs of urban traffic and people's livelihoods along the route.

The North-South axis road upgrade project (Nguyen Huu Tho road) has a total investment of nearly 9,894 billion VND.
In which, the state budget is responsible for site clearance and investment in the construction of two important intersections on Nguyen Van Linh road and Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway; the rest is implemented in BOT form (Sub-project 2 with a total investment of 6,106 billion VND).

According to the plan, the project is expected to start construction in 2026 and be completed in 2028.
When put into operation, the Nguyen Huu Tho elevated road will become a fast and smooth traffic axis, connecting the city center with the South Saigon urban area, Hiep Phuoc urban - port and large industrial parks in the South of Ho Chi Minh City.
Not only playing a central role, the road also connects Ring Road 2 with Ben Luc - Long Thanh expressway (Ring Road 3), and at the same time creates a connecting platform with Ring Road 4 in the future, serving inter-regional traffic needs between Ho Chi Minh City and the eastern and southwestern provinces, the seaport and international airport system of Long Thanh.
