Riverside roads in Gia Lai are flooded with garbage because people secretly dump it at midnight

Gia Lai - After the merger, the road along Dinh River (Quy Nhon Dong Ward) was suddenly flooded with garbage, causing the landscape to be shabby and the environment to be polluted.

For nearly a month now, the road along Dinh River (Quy Nhon Dong Ward, Gia Lai) has been flooded with household waste and construction rubber. The environment in this area is seriously polluted, the landscape is shabby, affecting people's lives.

Mr. Tran Huy L (41 years old, residing in Quy Nhon Tay ward) - a regular visitor to this area - said that since the Dinh River Flood drainage System project was completed, the riverside road is very beautiful and the air is fresh. But after a short time, more and more waste began to appear, from household waste to construction materials.

"The air in this area is increasingly bad, suffocated by garbage. The stench is so strong that it comes with built-up soap, old tables and chairs... too shabby," said Mr. L.

According to records, along both sides of the Dinh River road, there are a series of piles of household waste, broken glass, damaged household appliances, soap, plastic bags... The situation of illegal dumping of garbage is rampant, creating a offensive image, spoiling the urban beauty and seriously affecting the environment.

Local people said that because the government has not taken strong measures to handle the situation, the situation of people bringing garbage to dump illegally is increasing. Many people have suggested that in addition to organizing garbage collection, the government needs to install surveillance cameras - undeniable evidence, to help completely handle this situation, returning a green and clean environment to the area.

Speaking with Lao Dong on July 17, Mr. Tran Viet Quang - Chairman of Quy Nhon Dong Ward People's Committee - confirmed that the illegal dumping of garbage along the Dinh River has been happening recently, especially before and after the merger.

After merging administrative boundaries, many people thought that the area was large and the management force was thin, so they took advantage of the dark to secretly transport garbage to dump into the environment. They act very quickly, leaving after dumping garbage, making inspection and handling difficult.

Faced with the above situation, the ward government has put up signs prohibiting dumping garbage along the Dinh River, and assigned functional forces to regularly inspect and encourage people not to dump garbage haphazardly.

"This morning, the locality sent forces down to inspect and handle the illegal dumping situation. We are currently organizing waste collection and cleaning; at the same time, assigning the police and urban order forces to strengthen control, detect, and strictly handle violations," said Mr. Quang.

Regarding the proposal to install surveillance cameras, Mr. Quang said that this is a feasible option, but it is necessary to survey and specifically review suitable locations for implementation. "Handling violations is only a part, the more important thing is still people's awareness of environmental sanitation," he emphasized.

The Dinh River Flood drainage System Project is implemented with the goal of unblocking the flow, improving flood drainage capacity, protecting residential areas and technical infrastructure. The project has a total cost of 602 billion VND, started in March 2022, completed in December 2024, 7 months ahead of schedule. However, just a few months after being put into use, the landscape along the route became ugly due to the widespread dumping of garbage, causing frustration among the people.
