People secretly throw dead pigs into the canal
On July 17, Mr. Nguyen Van Luong - Director of V Irrigation Enterprise, Binh Dinh Irrigation Works Exploitation Company Limited (new Gia Lai province) - said that he had reported the situation of people dumping waste and dead animals into Van Phong canal, causing environmental pollution and obstructing the flow through Binh An and Binh Hiep communes.
Previously, on July 11, the People's Committee of Binh Hiep commune held a meeting and sent a group of young people and commune officials to coordinate with the force of Irrigation Enterprise V to encourage people not to throw dead pigs into the ditch. At the same time, forces have recovered the remains and buried them to limit pollution. Thanks to that, the condition has improved significantly.

However, from July 13 to 15, the situation of people throwing dead pigs into the canal continued to recur, especially at the Van Phong canal section running through Binh An commune, causing the flow to be obstructed and the ecological environment to be seriously affected.
To ensure smooth flow and avoid environmental pollution, Irrigation Enterprise V proposed that the People's Committee of Binh An commune request people to stop throwing pests into the canal. In case of continued violations, the unit will make a record and impose a fine according to regulations.
On the same day, speaking with Lao Dong, Mr. Le Ha An - Chairman of Binh Hiep Commune People's Committee - said that the locality is still actively collecting and handling dead pigs floating on canals, especially the section through Van Phong canal.

According to Mr. An, the epidemic in the local pigs has been controlled, no new outbreaks have been recorded. Thanks to increased patrols, the situation of people throwing pigs into the canal has significantly decreased. However, the phenomenon of dead pigs floating from Binh An commune along the water flow to Binh Hiep commune still occurs frequently.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mai Xuan Hau - Chairman of Binh An Commune People's Committee - said that the Van Phong canal passes through many communes, so it is impossible to determine that all floating pigs were caused by people in Binh An commune. However, Mr. Hau also admitted that there was a situation where local people secretly threw dead pigs into the canal.
"Currently, this situation is under control. The commune government has sent people and arranged vehicles to support people in collecting and bringing pig bodies to the centralized landfill when pig deaths occur," said Mr. Hau.
According to statistics, the total number of dead pigs collected, treated and destroyed by Binh Hiep, Binh An and Hoa Hoi communes to date is nearly 500 pigs. Of which, Binh Hiep commune has about 130 cows, Binh An commune has 34 cows and Hoa Hoi commune has about 300 cows.
Strictly handle the situation of illegal selling and slaughtering sick pigs
Faced with the above situation, Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Duong Mah Tiep has directed the Department of Agriculture and Environment (DONRE) to coordinate with localities to completely handle the situation of dumping dead pigs into Van Phong canal.
Mr. Tiep requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to direct veterinary forces and commune authorities to strengthen disease prevention and control, especially African swine fever. It is necessary to promptly detect and handle outbreaks, not allowing them to spread.

"D quyetamentally handle cases of hiding epidemics, delaying reporting, selling, slaughtering or dumping disease-prone or suspected disease-prone animals into the environment, causing disease spread and pollution," Mr. Tiep emphasized.
Gia Lai province has also established 4 inter-sectoral animal disease control posts on key traffic routes, including: Binh De post on National Highway 1 (Hoai Nhon Bac ward), Song An post on National Highway 19 (Cuu An commune), Ia Khuol post on National Highway 14 ( Ia Khuol commune) and Ia Le post on National Highway 14 ( Ia Le commune). These quarantine posts will operate continuously 24/24 hours for 30 days from the date of establishment, including weekends and holidays.
