On January 5, Long An Provincial People's Committee held a ceremony to close the Vam Co Dong bridge and start construction of provincial road DT.822B.
Mr. Dang Hoang Tuan - Director of the Department of Transport of Long An province - said that provincial road (DT) 822B is about 11.4 km long, the starting point intersects with DT.825 (Tan My commune, Duc Hoa district), and the ending point intersects with DT.838 (My Thanh Bac commune, Duc Hue district).
Phase 1 of the project has a total investment of nearly 920 billion VND, the scale of the level IV plain road with a 7 m wide road surface paved with asphalt concrete, the roadbed is 9 m wide. The bridge section will build small bridges, medium bridges crossing existing canals and ditches; the large bridge crossing the Vam Co Dong River has a load capacity of HL93, the bridge width is 13 m. The next phase will invest in completing the road according to the planning of 6 lanes, with a 30 m wide roadbed.
According to Mr. Tuan, the construction package of the Vam Co Dong bridge alone is worth more than 322 billion VND, with a total length of nearly 536 m, with the main span made of reinforced concrete, constructed according to the balanced cantilever method.
The contract has been implemented since April 2023. After more than 20 months of construction, the bridge has officially been closed, connecting the two banks of the Vam Co Dong River, and is expected to complete the entire main bridge section on April 30, 2025.
The construction package for the DT.822B road from Vam Co Dong bridge to DT.838, Duc Hue district, worth nearly 125 billion VND, will be implemented from January 2025 to July 2026. The remaining package of the project is in the bidding process, expected to start in January 2025 and be completed in March 2026. Currently, the contractors for the road construction have gathered equipment, are clearing and dredging the organic soil layer to create a flat surface, building camps, gathering materials for the service road and are ready to start construction.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Minh Lam - Vice Chairman of Long An Provincial People's Committee - said that DT.822B is a vital route connecting My Quy Tay National Border Gate to the Eastern and Southwestern provinces through Ho Chi Minh Road, National Highway N2 and the provincial road network that has been and is being invested in. The investment in the construction of DT.822B is of great significance in meeting the travel and trade needs of people in the region, ensuring traffic safety and gradually completing the Duc Hoa dynamic axis. Thereby, the project will contribute to creating momentum to promote the socio-economic development of Duc Hoa and Duc Hue districts in particular, and Long An province in general.
