More than a year ago, the project to renovate and upgrade Nguyen Chi Thanh Street (15m wide) in Dien Bien Phu City had to be temporarily suspended due to problems arising during the construction process. Now, the city's busiest and most bustling street is showing a new face.
On January 4, according to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, of the total length of the road of more than 1,400m, nearly 700m has been completed, the remaining part has also completed most of the items.
Ms. Va Thi Hoa - owner of a business on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street said that the initial construction process caused a lot of dust and inconvenience to residents. However, when returning to the implementation, the items were completed quickly after only about 2 weeks. Currently, it no longer affects the business of the restaurant.
"For over a year, people have suffered a lot because they have to live on an unfinished street, especially businesses. However, now that the road is completed, the street has become spacious and modern, I believe that business will be more favorable" - Ms. Hoa said.
On the afternoon of January 4, speaking with Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, Mr. Tran Duc Lam - Deputy Director of Dien Bien Phu City Project Management Board (representing the investor) said that the project has completed all procedures after adjustment. "We have requested contractors to complete all items before January 15," said Mr. Lam.
Previously in October 2023, Lao Dong Newspaper published an article reflecting "Enterprises dig up roads and leave them there, people's lives are turned upside down".
Accordingly, from around mid-September 2023, the company came to dig sidewalks, drainage systems, cut trees and gather materials along Nguyen Chi Thanh Street. After that, both workers and machines moved away, causing great impact on people's travel and business.
The contractor representative said that the reason for not being able to continue implementation was due to problems arising during the construction process. Accordingly, the entire old drainage system had seriously degraded but was not included in the project list.
Immediately after that, Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee - Mr. Le Thanh Do directly led the working group to inspect, evaluate and approve the project adjustment. However, due to the urgent preparation for the activities to celebrate the 70th anniversary of Dien Bien Phu Victory, the project had to be temporarily suspended.
After that, the investor and contractor will have to wait for the project adjustment procedures to be completed. Therefore, the project will not be implemented until the end of 2024.
Speaking to Lao Dong Newspaper reporter, Mr. Le Hong Quang - Director of Vinh Phuc Investment and Construction Company Limited - one of the contractors of this project - said: "Immediately after completing the project adjustment documents, we mobilized maximum human resources and means to complete the project as soon as possible".
According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, the project to upgrade and repair drainage ditches and sidewalks to complete the technical infrastructure on Nguyen Chi Thanh Street has a total length of more than 1,400m with a total investment of nearly 15 billion VND.
After adjustment, the project has a total cost of 35 billion VND, including all drainage ditches (renewed) and the entire road surface. This project is invested by Dien Bien Phu City People's Committee, the construction unit is a joint venture of Vinh Phuc Company - Thuat Tuong Nguyen.
