Gia Lai sinks in flood, more than 42,000 people are isolated, rescuers race every minute to save people

Gia Lai - More than 42,000 people isolated by floods, the authorities and functional forces still respond day and night, denying information about stopping rescue spread online.

By the evening of November 19, many communes and wards in the eastern part of Gia Lai province were still deeply submerged in floodwater. Quy Nhon Bac ward and Tuy Phuoc commune were heavily flooded over a large area, causing traffic disruption. The whole province has more than 10,000 households with more than 42,000 people isolated due to floods.

On the afternoon of November 19, a series of rescue information appeared on social networks from people in flooded areas. Many images recorded the scene of people in the old Nhon Phu ward, the old Tran Quang Dieu ward (now Quy Nhon Bac ward) having to climb to the roofs, convulsing in the cold rain to avoid the flood and calling for support from the authorities.

In a quick update to Lao Dong, the leader of the Quy Nhon Bac Ward Party Committee said that the flooding situation in the entire area is still very complicated, many areas are deeply flooded and isolated, causing many households to be isolated.

The ward government and functional forces have been on duty continuously, overcoming floods to support people in evacuation. However, weak phone signal, rapid water surge and disrupted traffic made rescue work difficult. The locality is collecting information on rescue, identifying the location of each household to organize rescue as quickly as possible.

At noon on November 19, Gia Lai Provincial Police continued to increase rescue forces. As of 10:00 a.m. the same day, the Provincial Police and the Provincial Military Command had evacuated more than 2,460 households with more than 6,700 people to safety.

The authorities denied the information "The police temporarily suspended rescue and relief of people" appearing on social networking sites. This is incorrect news. Due to the large number of emergency calls, the authorities are deploying rescue according to the level of danger and priority order, there is no stopping rescue.

On the evening of November 19, the Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee issued an urgent telegram, requesting agencies and localities to focus on responding to especially large floods and emergency floods in the province.

The telegram requested the Provincial Military Command and the Provincial Police to increase forces, vehicles, and mobilization by all means to immediately go to flooded and isolated areas to support the evacuation of people to safe places. Closely coordinate with local authorities, especially in vulnerable areas, at risk of deep flooding and landslides, to promptly reach and support people.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment and the Department of Industry and Trade are responsible for directing the safe operation of hydropower and irrigation reservoirs, ensuring flood reduction for downstream areas, absolutely not allowing unsafe dam incidents to occur.

The People's Committees of communes and wards continue to review and organize the evacuation of people from dangerous areas, deep flooding, and landslides; at the same time, ensure food, drinking water and essential necessities at evacuation points, not leaving people hungry, cold or lacking clean water.
