On February 23, Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee said that the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has issued an Emergency Construction Order for the Tam Quan estuary dredging project to ensure safe traffic flow for ships entering and leaving the fishing port and Tam Quan storm shelter anchorage area, in Hoai Nhon Bac ward.
The issuance of the emergency order aims to promptly overcome the situation of sea mouth siltation, serve the needs of fishermen's exploitation and fishing, stabilize life and production, and contribute to local socio-economic development.
The project is invested by Tam Quan Fishing Port Management Board (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province), implemented in 2026, with a total budget of more than 6 billion VND.
Previously, in November 2025, due to the impact of storm No. 13 and a large flood causing serious damage, many essential infrastructure works in terms of technology, civil, transportation, irrigation, and dykes were damaged, eroded, and silted up, posing a potential risk of unsafety, directly affecting the lives and property of people and production activities.
The Tam Quan estuary area is seriously silted up, the channel is narrowed, and there is a situation of stranding, making it difficult for ships to enter and exit, posing a risk of accidents. Meanwhile, it is currently the fishing season, the number of ships entering and leaving the port is large, so the need to dredge and clear the channel is urgent.
According to Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, if implemented according to the normal construction investment order, it will take a lot of time and not meet immediate requirements. Therefore, issuing an emergency construction order to immediately deploy sea mouth dredging and channel clearing is necessary and urgent, in order to ensure the safety of people's lives and property and serve the production and fishing needs of fishermen.
