On May 22, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province issued a "hot" directive requesting the Department of Finance to check and review the determination of clean water unit prices applied by Quang Nam Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company, after reflecting the new price higher than neighboring localities such as Da Nang City.
The review is made in the context that Quang Nam Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company has begun to apply a new domestic water price list from the May 2025 collection period, according to the third-year roadmap approved in Decision 2473/QD-UBND dated September 20, 2022.
The new domestic water price applied in Quang Nam from May 2025 is divided into 4 levels, of which the highest level in areas such as Tam Ky, Hoi An, Dien Ban... is 15,624 VND/m3. For mountainous areas such as Nam Giang and Phuoc Son, the highest level is 12,512 VND/m.
Water prices for administrative units, production and service business also increased sharply, up to nearly VND19,000/m3 in urban areas.
This price has surprised many people because it is significantly higher than many other localities, especially compared to Da Nang City, but the quality is not guaranteed and is often complained about. Not to mention, the water supplied by this enterprise often has a turbid yellow color, affecting the quality of consumers.
The adjustment to increase water prices takes place in the context that Quang Nam Water Supply and Drainage Joint Stock Company is in a state of financial losses - according to the report sent to the People's Committee of Quang Nam province in April 2025.
Accordingly, the enterprise presented a series of difficulties such as: ODA loan debt of more than 98 billion VND, unpaid interest of more than 93 billion VND and budget debt of over 54 billion VND.
This company has also sent documents to the Provincial People's Committee twice to "request" to adjust water prices and requested the provincial budget to provide more than 11.8 billion VND for not being able to increase prices according to the roadmap. The company affirmed that if the difficulties are not resolved soon, water supply activities for people across the province could be seriously affected.
Facing the above -mentioned inadequacies, the Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Finance to carefully review the content of the third year water price approval, re -evaluate the price that is applying and clarify the reason why the water price in Quang Nam is higher than Da Nang, although socio -economic conditions are not too big. The results report must be completed and sent to the Provincial People's Committee before May 30, 2025.
