On March 8, Mr. Le Hong Ha - Head of Gia Lai Provincial Market Management Sub-Department said that the unit has grasped information about some gas stations temporarily stopping selling gasoline and oil through cans and drums.
According to the plan, on March 9, the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Industry and Trade will organize a meeting with relevant units, including representatives of gasoline and oil trading companies, to exchange and clarify the contents related to the temporary suspension of gasoline and oil sales in this form.
Mr. Ha said that recently, due to the complicated conflict situation in the Middle East, world gasoline and oil prices have increased sharply. Before this information, some people were worried, so they bought gasoline and oil in cans and drums in large quantities for storage. This caused the demand for gasoline and oil to increase sharply, posing a potential risk of supply imbalance at some points.
In addition, people arbitrarily using cans and drums to store gasoline and oil also pose a risk of fire and explosion, and may also affect the volume of goods of gas stations that have registered to import according to the plan with the supplier being Vietnam National Petroleum Group (Petrolimex).
The temporary suspension of gasoline and oil sales through cans and drums is implemented under the direction of Petrolimex to control the situation of localized gasoline and oil storage in some areas.

Currently, central ministries and sectors such as the Ministry of Finance and the Government have established a working group on energy security to monitor and control the market and propose appropriate solutions in the coming time, ensuring stable gasoline and oil supply for people," Mr. Ha informed.
Regarding the temporary suspension of gasoline and oil sales through cans, a representative of the Gia Lai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board said that this move has directly affected the construction activities of some projects, especially key projects.
According to this unit, the increase in gasoline prices has dragged down the prices of many types of building materials such as bricks, sand, stones, concrete and cement. Previously, contractors often bought gasoline and oil in cans or drums at stores to serve construction machinery.
However, when the sale of gasoline and oil in this form is temporarily suspended, contractors have to find many other solutions, even bringing vehicles to each gas station to refuel, incurring additional costs and taking a lot of time.
Representatives of the Gia Lai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board also expressed concern that high gasoline prices will continue to affect the construction progress of projects, especially school construction projects in the border area of Ia Mo, Ia Nan, Ia Puch, Ia O, Ia Chia communes...
At the same time, this also directly affects the lives of many workers, because in remote and isolated areas, the prices of goods and food often increase due to the distance from residential areas and high transportation costs.
Petrolimex Gia Lai Co., Ltd. has issued an official letter requesting that from March 5, stores temporarily stop selling gasoline and oil through cans and drums. The reason is that in recent days, through checking Egas data (a comprehensive management system for gas stations and retail gasoline and oil store chains) and the surveillance camera system, the Company discovered many cases of customers buying gasoline and oil through cans and drums in large quantities.
