At noon on April 12, the scene of the fire that occurred at a 4-story house combined with a rented room business on Nguyen Thi Thoi street (Tan Thoi Hiep ward, Ho Chi Minh City) is still being strictly blockaded by functional forces.
According to initial information, the fire broke out fiercely at about 3 am, when all tenants were sleeping. The house has a one-story structure used as a parking lot and the three upper floors have been renovated into many small rooms for rent.

As soon as smoke was detected rising, neighbors around immediately shouted and used fire extinguishers to help put out the fire. However, because the main door of the house was protected by a fingerprint lock system, firefighting was difficult.
Black smoke billowed densely from the windows and terraces. In panic, some people risked their lives trying to escape the fire of the 4-story boarding house, one of whom was injured by breaking the window glass with his bare hands.
At the same time, a grassroots security soldier climbed onto the rooftop, safely rescued a child about 1 year old, and took her to the emergency room. A woman escaped and then asked people to rescue her husband, but the smoke and fire were too large so no one could approach inside.

The Fire and Rescue Police force (Ho Chi Minh City Police) dispatched vehicles to the scene, broke down the main door to put out the fire. The rescue team used ladders to approach the upper floors, taking 5 people who were suffocated to the outside and transferring them to the hospital.
Initial investigation determined that the fire killed 2 people due to smoke inhalation, including a male (born in 2000, from Ca Mau) and a female (born in 2002, from Ben Tre).
According to records, all items inside the house were burned down. The cause of the fire is being investigated by functional agencies.
People's Hospital 115 said it is actively treating 4 victims of smoke inhalation from the fire on Nguyen Thi Thoi street, who were transferred from Trung My Tay General Hospital. At the time of admission, all 4 people were in serious respiratory failure.
Male patient named N.D. L is currently in a coma, multiple organ failure, hemodynamic disorder; female patient N.M. Y has severe respiratory failure. Both are on a ventilator through endotracheal ventilation. In addition, male victim L.V. C was admitted to the hospital in a state of coma, degree II burns (area of about 36%) accompanied by severe respiratory failure, requiring ventilation. The lightest case being treated here is male patient D. G. H, currently awake, exposed and breathing high-dose oxygen.
Representatives of People's Hospital 115 said that through bronchospasm endoscopy, a lot of soot sticking to the patient's airways was recorded. The unit has organized an inter-specialized consultation, applying the smoke inhalation treatment protocol of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health. Currently, all 4 cases are being closely monitored at the Intensive Care and Poison Control Department with complicated developments and a severe prognosis.
More information about the youngest victim in the fire, on the same day, Children's Hospital 1 said that patient D.A (born in 2025) has now passed the critical condition and is continuing to be monitored for health at the Emergency Department.
