On July 29, the People's Committee of Quang Tin commune (Lam Dong province) said that it had coordinated with forces to promptly rescue a resident trapped in the middle of the Dong Nai River after the water rose due to the Dong Nai 5 hydropower plant discharging floodwater.

According to initial information, on July 26, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Van (born 2002) and Mr. Pham Hoang Bao Duy (born 1998), both residing in Ward 3 Bao Loc, Lam Dong province, came to the downstream area of Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Plant, about 2km from the dam to fish on a sandbar in the middle of the river.
By the afternoon of July 28, when Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Plant carried out flood discharge, the river water rose rapidly, trapping two people. One person swam ashore to report, the other was isolated on a sandbar in the middle of the river.
Immediately after receiving the news, the Chairman of Quang Tin Commune People's Committee directed the Military Command of the commune to coordinate with the Management Board of Dong Nai 5 Hydropower Plant to temporarily suspend flood discharge; and at the same time mobilized 3 officials and 3 militiamen to coordinate with forces to deploy rescue work.
At about 10:30 am on July 29, functional forces approached and brought the trapped person ashore safely, preventing casualties. Currently, the victim's health is stable.
