On September 13, implementing the direction of the Provincial People's Committee, Gia Lai Department of Agriculture and Environment (NNMT) strengthened supervision and inspection activities of livestock farming, landfilling, waste treatment, air monitoring, land use efficiency... of pig farms in the area.
According to statistics, Gia Lai is currently one of the leading provinces in the country in terms of the number and scale of livestock farms, especially pig farming.
The whole province has a total pig herd of about 1.73 million heads, with 308 livestock investment projects and 884 projects and farm-scale livestock facilities operating.
Therefore, in order not to form hotspots, pollution, and complaints, the Department of Agriculture and Environment of the province is assigned the task of clarifying the responsibility of the facility owner. In particular, livestock wastewater after treatment, before being discharged into the receiving source, must meet the permissible limit value.
Strengthen inspection and examination of establishments with high pollution risk, with reflections, discharging untreated wastewater or operating works not in accordance with procedures; take monitoring and sample analysis results.
Functional sectors need to assess the actual socio-economic efficiency, land use, livestock density, infrastructure and environmental load-bearing capacity.
Functional sectors do not advise on approving projects in areas with high livestock density, infrastructure that does not meet or is at risk of exceeding environmental load capacity.
