Risking my life to catch fish right behind the discharge gate of Boc Nguyen Lake

TRẦN TUẤN |

Ha Tinh - Some people risked their lives using nets to catch fish right behind the discharge gate of Boc Nguyen Lake while the lake was discharging water for regulation.

In the afternoon of September 13, according to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, Boc Nguyen lake (Cam Due commune) is discharging floodwater with a flow rate of 5m3/s.

The spillway discharge was carried out from 9 am on the same day. Previously, on September 12, Ha Tinh Irrigation One Member Limited Liability Company announced and requested the People's Committees of Cam Due, Cam Xuyen, Cam Hung, Thach Xuan, Toan Luu, Thach Ha communes... to urgently notify, urge, and guide people to implement safety measures and be ready to respond.

However, just a few hours after Boc Nguyen Lake discharged floodwater, some people came to the back of the discharge gate to use nets to catch fish.

According to people, fish that slip through the spillway will drift down below. They are waiting, and when they spot fish, they use nets to catch them.

When asked if fishing right at the spillway gate is dangerous, a man said that because the lake discharges with a small flow rate, it is not worrying. This person also said that discharging is small, so there are fewer fish, if discharging is larger, more fish will pass through and more will be caught.

Due to the influence of the tropical depression, on September 13 in Ha Tinh there will be heavy rain. According to Ha Tinh Hydrometeorological Station, from morning to night on September 13, there will be heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms in the province, common rainfall of 100-200mm, in some places over 350mm.

On the day and night of September 14, the whole province will continue to have heavy rain, in some places very heavy rain and thunderstorms, common rainfall of 100-200mm, in some places over 250mm. On the day and night of September 15, rain will decrease to commonly 30-60mm, in some places over 100mm. The heavy rain period is likely to last until the morning of September 16.

Heavy rain can cause flooding in urban areas, industrial parks and low-lying areas; increasing the risk of floods on small rivers and streams, flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas. People need to be wary of thunderstorms, tornadoes and strong gusts of wind during the time of tropical depression.
