Decree 168/2024/ND-CP regulating administrative sanctions for violations of traffic order and safety in the field of road traffic; deduction of points, restoration of driving license points, officially took effect on January 1, 2025, in which many violations were subject to increased administrative sanctions.
For motorbikes, violations of not complying with traffic light signals are fined from 4-6 million VND (previously fined from 800,000 VND to 1 million VND); violations of driving on the sidewalk are fined from 4-6 million VND (previously fined from 400,000-600,000 VND)...
Up to now, after more than 3 months of the new fine taking effect, the number of violations of traffic safety order has decreased significantly. However, during rush hour, the number of vehicles increased, the road was congested, many people still ignored and drove their vehicles onto the sidewalk to move.
Recorded on the evening of April 10, on some streets such as Cach Mang Thang Tam, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Dien Bien Phu, ... it was not difficult to see people driving on the sidewalk.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung (technology driver) said that the situation of people moving on sidewalks, running red lights, ... has decreased significantly since the fine was increased.
"Everyone is afraid of high fines, but the road is congested, if they don't see the traffic police in front, people risk moving onto the sidewalk to get there quickly," said Mr. Dung.
