According to Son La Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, around the morning of April 23, a cold air mass from the North began to affect the southeastern area of the province such as Moc Chau, Van Ho, Bac Yen, Phu Yen, Yen Chau, then spread to other places.
Due to the impact of cold air combined with high-altitude wind convergence, from the night of April 22nd to 24th, Son La will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with locally heavy rain.
From April 23, the weather will turn cool, high mountainous areas will turn cold in some places, wind will turn Northeast level 2-3. The lowest temperature in the period is commonly 18-20 degrees C, especially high mountainous areas 16-18 degrees C.
Also in this province, in the early morning of April 23, weather radar images recorded convective clouds developing over many areas such as Chieng Lao, Quynh Nhai, Ngoc Chien, Muong Khieng, Muong Leo, Pung Banh, Muong Bang, Song Khua; and at the same time, a cloud area from the upper Laos region appeared with a tendency to move into the province.
In the next few hours, thunderstorms are likely to continue to expand to many other areas.

In Lao Cai, on the night of April 22nd and the day of April 23rd, the localities will be cloudy, with scattered showers and thunderstorms; the highlands and high mountains will be cold at night and in the morning.
In Dien Bien, the weather is cloudy, with rain, showers and thunderstorms in some places; scattered rain during the day, locally moderate to heavy rain in some places. In thunderstorms, it is necessary to prevent tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.
Cold at night and in the morning, cold in high mountainous areas, sunny during the day; common temperature 20-34 degrees C, 20-27 degrees C in high mountainous areas, humidity 60-98%.
In midland areas like Phu Tho, the weather has not clearly turned cold like high mountains, but there has been differentiation.
During the day, many places are generally cloudy, with light rain in some places at night, sunny skies during the day; the West and Southwest locally have intense heat. The temperature at 1:00 PM is commonly 30-33 degrees Celsius, humidity 56-79%.
Tam Dao alone is at 25 degrees Celsius, humidity 87%, while Mai Chau recorded a high temperature of 38 degrees Celsius, humidity only 38%.
The meteorological agency warns that thunderstorms, tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind can break trees, damage houses, and affect traffic and daily life.
Localized heavy rain also increases the risk of flash floods and landslides in streamside areas, hillsides, low-lying areas and construction sites. In Son La alone, the risk of natural disasters due to tornadoes, lightning, and hail is warned at level 1.
