The Dong Hoi City Central Railway Overpass and Road Project, a particularly important traffic project of Quang Binh province, is being accelerated after a long period of "inactive soldiers" due to problems with site clearance.
The Dong Hoi City Central Railway Road and Overpass Project includes 2 bidding packages, including a bridge construction package worth more than 85 billion VND and a road construction package worth more than 13.4 billion VND. The project started construction in 2022. However, not long after the groundbreaking, both packages were stalled due to land clearance problems.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quy - Director of the Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Quang Binh Department of Construction) admitted that the delay caused the project's efficiency to decline. The main reason is that the site clearance stage is facing many difficulties.
According to Mr. Quy, the site clearance area is overlapping with a project that was previously implemented. This forces relevant parties to review and re-measure the data for comparison, ensuring accuracy and consistency. In addition, the change of the Land Law effective from August 1, 2024 has caused many obstacles in applying the new regulations, requiring a review of the site clearance plan.
Since the beginning of 2025, with the strong direction of the People's Committee of Quang Binh province, the problems have gradually been resolved. The Department of Construction in coordination with the People's Committee of Dong Hoi City has actively handled overlaps in site clearance.
Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quy said that the unit will try to complete the site clearance work in May 2025, and urgently deploy construction in the next 5 months to ensure the handover of the project in 2025.
According to the update, the bridge construction package has reached 40% of the volume, while the approach road package to the bridge is about 30% complete. The project is expected to be completed on schedule after a long wait.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, the Dong Hoi City Central Railway Overpass and Road Project is invested by the Department of Construction of Quang Binh Province, the Provincial Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board is the investor's representative.
The project started in October 2022 and is expected to be completed in 36 months. However, after more than 2 years, the project has only been able to build bridge piers. With the drastic participation of local authorities and related units, people expect the project to be accelerated, contributing to improving traffic infrastructure in Dong Hoi City, promoting the socio-economic development of the area.
