According to the review results, currently, in Ha Long city, there are 2 concentrated slaughterhouses for livestock and poultry in Ha Khanh and Ha Phong wards; 5 small-scale establishments in Hoanh Bo and Bai Chay wards.
Current livestock slaughtering capacity is from 320 - 375 animals/day, equivalent to meat output from 32,000kg - 37,000kg per day, total annual output from 11,520 tons - 13,320 tons.
However, according to the city's food supply reserve plan, the current capacity only meets about 50 - 60% of the local demand. This poses an urgent need to invest in building more modern slaughterhouses to serve the growing market demand.
In fact, two concentrated slaughterhouses for livestock and poultry in Ha Phong and Ha Khanh wards, operating since 2010, are now in disrepair.
These areas are at risk of food safety and hygiene loss and are no longer suitable according to Decision No. 72/QD-TTg dated February 10, 2023 of the Prime Minister approving the general planning of Ha Long City until 2040.
Speaking to Lao Dong on December 10, Mr. Nguyen Thanh An - Head of the Economic Department of Ha Long City - said: "After the general planning of Ha Long City until 2040 was approved by the Prime Minister, the zoning plans continued to be approved by the Provincial People's Committee. Among them, there are 4 concentrated slaughterhouses for livestock and poultry, each about 3 hectares wide.
These locations are located in Thong Nhat Commune (Division 14), Ha Khanh Ward (Division 4), Ha Phong Ward (Division 3) and Viet Hung Ward (Division 10). The city has assigned the Urban Management Department to develop detailed plans for these slaughterhouses and has reported to the province to include these locations in the investment attraction list from 2025. Currently, the province is collecting opinions from relevant sectors."
Mr. An added: "Some businesses have expressed interest in investing in centralized slaughterhouses when the detailed planning is completed. For the two old slaughterhouses, the city has inspected and urged temporary renovation to ensure veterinary hygiene. After the new centralized slaughterhouses come into operation, the old facilities will have to relocate or cease operations according to regulations."
