The situation of vehicles and motorbikes going in opposite directions on some routes in Hanoi tends to increase, especially during rush hour.
According to PV's records on some routes, such as To Huu, Nghiem Xuan Yem, Me Tri overpass... every day, there are hundreds of motorbikes going in the wrong direction. Although it is only a short distance, this behavior is very dangerous and prone to traffic collisions. In fact, the act of driving in the wrong direction for motorbikes is heavily fined, from 4 - 6 million VND, deducting 2 points from the driver's license.
On April 8, at the Nghiem Xuan Yem - Pham Tu intersection, the Working Group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 14 - Hanoi Traffic Police Department - Hanoi City Police was on duty to handle the act of driving in the wrong direction.
According to a survey by the authorities, the area where violations often occur is the opening of the median strip at the foot of the T133 bridge on the elevated Ring Road 3. This is an opening about 20m from Nghiem Xuan Yem - Pham Tu intersection.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Van Dung - an officer of Road Traffic Police Team No. 14 - said: "Some people driving motorbikes from Nghiem Xuan Yem Street to Nguyen Xien, due to impatience waiting for red lights and lack of awareness, went to the opposite lane to turn onto Pham Tu Street. This behavior endangers vehicles going in the right direction, we will resolutely handle violations strictly".
In just around 30 minutes on the morning of April 8, 7 cases of riding motorbikes in the wrong direction on Nghiem Xuan Yem Street were punished.
At the foot of Me Tri overpass (Nam Tu Liem district), the Working Group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 6 also handled the situation of motorbikes going in the wrong direction.
According to the people's reflection, instead of having to take a detour under Me Tri overpass towards Cuong Kien street, then turn onto the overpass to go to Mieu Dam street, many people choose to go in the opposite direction about 100m, from the Thang Long Avenue service road to the overpass. Just to get a little faster put yourself and other road users in a dangerous situation.
very quickly, about 1 hour on duty, the Working Group of Road Traffic Police Team No. 6 discovered and issued fines for 10 cases.
Many people have the mentality that during rush hour, traffic police only regulate and divert traffic without handling violations. However, we always carry out the handling in parallel to prevent accidents and traffic congestion" - Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Chien - Captain of Road Traffic Police Team No. 6 - shared.
In the coming time, the Hanoi Traffic Police Department will continue to increase its forces, strictly handle violations, and further promote propaganda work to raise people's awareness, avoiding the situation of "granting the law".
