The Government Office has just issued Notice No. 482/TB-VPCP dated September 14, 2026, concluding the conclusion of Politburo Member, Standing Deputy Prime Minister Pham Gia Tuc at the meeting to review regulations on safe distance for vehicles participating in traffic on roads.
In the announcement, the Standing Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged and highly appreciated the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Construction and ministries, branches, and localities for their efforts in implementing legal regulations on traffic order and safety, contributing to ensuring smooth and safe traffic for people and vehicles participating in traffic.
The Standing Deputy Prime Minister requested to promote propaganda, request, and mobilize drivers to strictly comply with the provisions of road traffic law.
At the same time, consciously maintain a safe distance from adjacent vehicles in front to ensure absolute traffic safety, especially when driving on highways.
The Ministry of Construction shall preside over and coordinate with the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Science and Technology and relevant agencies to urgently research, amend and supplement technical standards and regulations related to road traffic activities.
Research and amend and supplement Circular No. 38/2024/TT-BGTVT dated November 15, 2024 of the Ministry of Construction (formerly the Ministry of Transport), ensuring synchronization, fully meeting practical requirements on speed and safe distance of motor vehicles and specialized motorbikes participating in traffic on roads, especially expressways, and reporting to the Prime Minister for issues beyond their authority.
In which, it is noted that it is necessary to stipulate that the safe distance must be appropriate for the speed, conditions of bridges, roads, traffic density, terrain, weather and other influencing factors to ensure traffic safety in accordance with the provisions of the Road Law and the Law on Road Traffic Order and Safety.
In the immediate future, the Ministry of Construction urgently coordinates with the Ministry of Public Security and relevant agencies and localities to place signs for expressway sections that apply administrative penalties for acts of not complying with regulations on safe distances on expressways so that vehicle drivers know and comply with the provisions of law.
Strengthen propaganda work in appropriate forms in schools, agencies, offices, industrial parks and clusters so that people understand correctly and comply with the law when participating in traffic.
The Ministry of Public Security includes in the driving license training curriculum relevant contents and situations according to the provisions of law; including situations to ensure distance when participating in traffic on highways to ensure safety.
Violation handling must have an appropriate roadmap, combined with propaganda and guidance for vehicle drivers; at the same time, it is necessary to ensure full conditions on infrastructure, equipment, standards, and regulations before deployment; not causing traffic congestion and conflicts during the deployment of sanctioning activities, especially during holidays and Tet when vehicle density increases.
