Suffering heavy rain for three consecutive days, Ms. Cu Thi Bac's family, living at the end of alley 42 Giang Van Minh street (Ba Dinh ward), almost has no time to rest because they are constantly cleaning the house.
According to Ms. Bac, just about 30-40 minutes of rain, water flooded into the house, rising nearly 80cm. Many belongings could not be moved in time and had to accept damage.
Just finished cleaning at noon the day before, the next day the water flooded again. I am old, every time I wade through the water, I am very afraid of slipping. My skin is already allergic, these days I have had to soak my feet in black, smelly water, so the wound is even heavier, with signs of infection" - Ms. Bac shared.
What worries her the most is that the flooding situation has been repeated for many years but has not been completely overcome.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Vu Huy - Senior Lecturer of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Hanoi Medical University, after rainwater, stagnant dirty water, mixed with waste, can increase skin diseases, pinkeye, digestive diseases... while stagnant water after rain becomes a favorable environment for mosquitoes to breed, increasing the risk of dengue fever outbreaks. Worryingly, the number of dengue fever cases in Hanoi is tending to increase sharply.
Hanoi Center for Disease Control (CDC) informed that in the week from July 17 to July 24, the whole city recorded 146 cases of dengue fever in 61 wards and communes, an increase of 50 cases compared to the previous week (96 cases). Localities recorded many cases including: Hong Van, Dan Hoa, Phuc Tho, Ha Dong, Thanh Oai...
Hanoi CDC believes that the number of dengue fever cases is entering an annual increasing cycle. The city has seen a number of outbreaks with many patients and forecasts that the number of cases will continue to increase in the coming time, and new outbreaks will arise if prolonged heavy rain weather.
Faced with this development, the health sector is strengthening surveillance, epidemiological investigation and handling of outbreaks in many localities such as: Yen Hoa, Hong Van, Yen Lang, O Cho Dua. In the coming week, surveillance work will continue to be implemented in wards and communes of Hong Van, Phuc Tho, Thanh Oai, Khuong Dinh, Chuong Duong and Viet Hung. To proactively prevent and control epidemics after flooding, the Hanoi CDC requests health stations to develop plans to synchronously implement dengue fever prevention and control measures, such as general environmental sanitation, larvae killing, and chemical spraying in high-risk areas.
