The journey from despair to burst into happiness
The first months of Ms. Chi's pregnancy are normal. But by week 16, the doctor suspected her of having payment method syndrome - a rare complication, especially dangerous.
At 17 weeks of pregnancy, the couple decided to go toBS Dinh Thi Hien Le - Head of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Vinmec Times City International General Hospital (Hanoi). With more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Hien Le is the pioneer in bringing endoscopic laser surgery to treat bilateral blood transfusion to Vietnam, helping hundreds of babies born healthy. She is also the first person in the world to successfully preserve a ruptured uterus in her 18th week, and has directly performed thousands of complex obstetric surgeries.
When examined, the situation of payment of blood in the couple was in stage 3. If left untreated, one fetus may die, the other fetus is at risk of irreversible brain damage or may also die. In addition, severe polycystic ovary syndrome can easily lead to rupture of the ovary and miscarriage. Therefore, the decision had to be made very quickly, Dr. Hien Le shared.
That same day, Ms. Chi underwent a laser endoscopy of the capillary incision camera - a technique that uses an endoscopy tube to find and cut off abnormal blood vessels between two fetuses, ending the disease of blood transfusion. After just one day, the rice and Doppler indices returned to normal, and the health of mother and fetus was stable.
On July 4, 2025, two girls weighing 2.45kg and 1.95kg were born in Vinmec. Doctor Hien Le was moved: The first time I met her, the mother cried because she was scared. Today, when holding her two children in her hand, the mother cried, but that was a tear of happiness, also the greatest reward for those who pursue obstetrics and gynecology like us.

Colored fiber from modern medicine: Great hope for small fetuses
Binational hemorrhage syndrome occurs when two embryos share a vegetable cake, with abnormal connections between blood vessels. As a result, one fetus receives too much blood, while the other fetus is anemia, leading to multiple noises on one side, lack of or exhaustion on the other. If not intervened promptly, this complication can cause Doppler abnormalities in the cerebral vessels, umbilical cord, placenta epiderum, and even death in both.
Of many treatments, laser incision- Tube Endoscopy surgery is considered the most effective, with an average success rate in the world of 80-90%. At Vinmec, this rate is about 83%, equivalent to international centers.
According to Dr. Hien Le, the uterine cavity is a safe environment for fetal development. However, when a serious illness occurs, if not intervened promptly, the condition can progress severely, making it difficult for the fetus to survive until birth. Obstetric medical intervention is therefore extremely necessary, although there are always many potential risks such as infections, rupture of the water, miscarriage or premature birth.
Fetern medicine does not stop at screening and diagnosis, but also directly intervene and treat from the mother's womb. The goal is to help the baby be born healthy like any other baby, or at least slow down the progression of the disease, so that after giving birth, the pediatrician can continue to treat it effectively, minimizing complications, Dr. Hien Le shared.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Department at Vinmec Times City is currently built on the solid professional foundation of the obstetrics and gynecology system, with the combination of imaging diagnosis, genetics, anesthesia and neonatal resuscitation. The center is capable of comprehensively deploying the world's leading advanced techniques: prenatal genetic diagnosis, in-depth ultrasound, endoscopic surgery of the amniotic fluid, blood transfusion in the uterus, treatment of cheryngoseptic syndrome, handling complex abnormalities such as herniated disorders, heart failure, thalassemia, preeclampsia, etc.
The biggest difference is that the fetus is considered a real patient - examined, diagnosed and treated right in the mother's womb. This approach not only helps doctors proactively handle high-risk pregnancy, but also contributes to creating a healthy generation of citizens, while ensuring maximum safety for mothers.

Vinmec aims to develop Obstetrics and Gynecology not only in clinical roles, but also to become a center for training, research and technical transfer, contributing to the formation of a network of experts in Vietnam, connecting with the international community in the future, MSc. Dr. Dinh Thi Hien Le expressed.
From each successful intervention, Obstetrics and Gynecology not only saves the lives of small animals right in the mother's womb, but also opens a new standard for Vietnamese obstetrics and gynecology - where life is protected from the most fragile moments.
