On January 13, representatives of Kon Tum City People's Committee visited and expressed condolences to the families of two children who unfortunately drowned in the Ia Ly hydroelectric lake area.
Previously, a group of children living in the same village of Kroong Ktu (Kroong commune, Kon Tum city) went together to the semi-flooded area of Ia Ly hydroelectric lake to play and catch snails. Among them, Y.P (11 years old) carried along his younger brother Y.N.T (1 year old).
While searching for snails, Y.P and Y.N.T unfortunately slipped and drowned. As soon as the incident was discovered, people took the two children to Kon Tum General Hospital for emergency treatment, but the two children died outside the hospital.
Recently, local authorities have put up warning signs prohibiting swimming in rivers and dams as it is dangerous to life. The commune has also broadcasted warnings on loudspeakers and in village meetings about the risk of drowning in children. However, due to the lack of strict control by adults, heartbreaking accidents still occur.
