According to Lao Dong on April 19, on the De La Thanh route (belonging to the Ring Road 1 project), there are many cajuput, sesame, black star and crocodile trees, all of which are familiar with the urban landscape of Hanoi.

According to people living on De La Thanh Street, many of these trees have large trunks, floating roots, and spreading leaves covering a long stretch of road that has been attached to the land where they have lived for more than half a century.

Ba Lan, a long-time resident of Giang Vo ward (Ba Dinh), shared: I have lived here for more than 30 years. These rows of ancient trees are closely associated with the family's daily life. Hearing the news that the trees would have to be relocated, many people felt like they had lost some of their memories.
To implement the Ring Road 1, a key transport infrastructure project to solve the problem of inner-city congestion, moving and cutting down hundreds of trees is inevitable. According to the construction plan of the Ring Road 1 project, Hoang Cau - Voi Phuc section, a total of 357 trees will be affected to serve the site clearance work.
The Hanoi City Civil Works Construction Investment Project Management Board - the project investor, said that from April to the end of August, the contractor will handle all 357 trees. Of which, there are 57 trees in Dong Da district and 300 trees in Ba Dinh district.

According to the survey, 225 healthy trees will be moved and cared for at plot No. 9, Dong Anh district for 12 months before being handed over to the city. The remaining 132 trees will be cut down because they are not in the urban tree group, have died or are severely damaged.
Wood and wood collected from the cutting process will be liquidated and submitted to the State budget according to the instructions of the Department of Finance.
The Ring Road 1 project, Hoang Cau - Voi Phuc section, is 2.274km long, with a cross-section of 50m, including 6 lanes and two overpasses at major intersections: Giang Vo - Lang Ha and Nguyen Chi Thanh - De La Thanh.
Although it is shorter in length than many other traffic routes, this project has a total investment of nearly VND 7,800 billion. Of which, the cost of site clearance accounts for up to 6,000 billion, making it one of the most "ex expensive" routes in the world.
Expected to be completed in 2024, however, the project is still facing many difficulties in site clearance.

Previously, at the end of March and the beginning of April 2025, the Ba Dinh District government requested Ngoc Khanh, Thanh Cong, and Giang Vo wards to coordinate with investors to stop supplying electricity and water to households that had not yet handed over the site in accordance with regulations. This is considered a drastic move to speed up progress.
