Expectations for the new runway
On August 19, in Phu Cat commune, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the investment project to build runway No. 2 and synchronous works at Phu Cat Airport, celebrating the 80th anniversary of National Day on September 2.
The project has a total investment of more than VND 3,245 billion, expected to be constructed in 10 months. The project aims to ensure safe and effective civil aviation operations; military flight activities, meeting the needs of socio-economic development of the province.
At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Tu Cong Hoang - Vice Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee - emphasized that Phu Cat Airport plays a very important role in promoting socio-economic development, ensuring national security and defense for the South Central region, the Central Highlands in general and Gia Lai in particular.
However, the airport is currently overloaded, especially during the peak summer tourism season and events, holidays, and Tet. In particular, the railway system has been in operation for too long and has begun to deteriorate.
To effectively promote its advantages, airports need to be prioritized for synchronous, modern, sustainable investment, worthy of their position and role as a domestic airport with international routes; a main airport in the national defense system...
"This is one of the large-scale and important aviation projects. Therefore, I request the investor to closely coordinate with military units, Phu Cat Airport and localities to promptly resolve problems, speed up project progress; resolutely handle violating units...", Mr. Hoang requested.
Mr. Luong Van Than (born in 2019, residing in Tan Le village, Phu Cat commune) - a household in the project area - shared: "During the compensation process, the investor implemented it quickly, and the people here were very excited. Hopefully, when there are more routes, the local economy will develop more, improving people's lives".
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Phong - Head of Tan Le village, Phu Cat commune - said that local people all agree with the compensation policy and support the project implementation. "Currently, the investor has paid the first compensation to the affected people. In the next 1-2 days, compensation for households will be completed," said Mr. Phong.
Putting the people's rights first
At the same time, the groundbreaking ceremony of the Phu My Industrial Park project phase 1 was held in Phu My Dong commune. The project is invested by Phu My Investment Group Joint Stock Company, with a scale of more than 436 hectares, a total investment capital of over VND 4,500 billion, and an operating period of 70 years.
The industrial park is oriented to develop a new energy industrial ecosystem including green hydrogen, green ammonia, LNG...; manufacturing and production industry in the renewable energy ecosystem; automobile assembly and production; petroleum product warehouse; electronics and data supporting industry...
At the ceremony, Chairman of Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan emphasized that this is a large-scale industrial project, marking an important first step in realizing the Provincial Planning; demonstrating the strong commitment of investors in project implementation, contributing to rapid, sustainable and modern economic development.
Today's groundbreaking ceremony is an important milestone, demonstrating the strong determination of the entire Gia Lai provincial political system in accompanying and supporting investors to implement projects quickly, effectively and on schedule.
"I understand that site clearance and relocation bring many changes in the lives and activities of the people. However, with the spirit of solidarity and resilience of the heroic homeland of Phu My, I believe that the people will continue to accompany and share for the common development.

Along with the above 2 projects, Gia Lai province simultaneously started the project of the Concentrated Agricultural - Forestry Products Production and Processing Area (VinaNutrifood Binh Dinh) and 3 projects to build and operate technical infrastructure for Binh Thanh, Cat Hiep, Cat Hanh Industrial Clusters. At the same time, he inaugurated 2 projects on the Western Provincial Road connecting to the coastal road through Phu My District; Construction of the Southern bypass of Phu Phong Town.
