According to data from the People's Committee of Lang Son province, in the first quarter of 2025, the total number of motor vehicles imported through border gates in the area reached 4,166 units, an increase of 23% over the same period last year.
However, the customs clearance of these lots of vehicles is facing many obstacles, mainly due to problems in procedures for granting Certificates of technical safety and environmental protection quality.
Talking to reporters, Mr. Nong Quang Hung - Deputy Head of Tan Thanh Border Gate Customs Branch said that the average clearance time for each motor vehicle is from 3 to 5 days, instead of 1-2 days as before.
According to Mr. Hung, the problem has caused many businesses to extend their warehouse storage and lease-off time.

Economic records at the wharf area near Huu Nghi and Tan Thanh international border gates in early April showed that a long line of imported motor vehicles continued to be transported from China.
However, due to slow inspection procedures, many vehicles have to wait outside the yard, queuing from morning to afternoon.
The reason was determined to be that the national one-stop system serving administrative procedures of the Department of Registration often has software errors, while the inspection force working at the border gate is still thin, especially on weekends or when there are sudden business incidents.
Mr. Nguyen Anh Dung - Director of Sao Viet Import-Export Joint Stock Company - shared: "We are very happy that the demand for tanks and import activities are bustling again, but the slow registration procedures make each batch of vehicles have to be at the parking lot for 4-5 days, causing costs to increase to tens of millions of VND".
According to Mr. Dung, in addition to the cost of renting a wharf, many businesses also have to hire a vehicle security guard, extend the transportation contract and delay the handover progress to domestic customers.

It is not our fault, but in the end, the business has to suffer, he added.
In this situation, the People's Committee of Lang Son province has sent an official dispatch to the Vietnam Register, requesting the arrangement of more human resources at the Huu Nghi international border gate area and the specialized road in the area of landmark 1088/2 - 1089 (Tan Thanh).
At the same time, the province also proposed to fix the software error of the national one-stop system, allowing the arrangement of staff to work on holidays to improve customs clearance efficiency.
Enterprises expect these recommendations to be implemented soon in April to reduce costs, ensure smooth and stable motor vehicle import and export activities.
On April 12, speaking with Lao Dong reporter, Mr. Nguyen To An - Deputy Director of the Vietnam Register said that right before the Lunar New Year 2025, the Department has sent a working group to survey and after the Lunar New Year, the unit began to establish a permanent department to support motor vehicle inspection at border gates in Lang Son and Cao Bang provinces.
Regarding the support request document of the People's Committee of Lang Son province, the leader of the Vietnam Register said that the Department has been and is continuing to support to help remove the above difficulties and obstacles.
