As one of the key projects in the northernmost part of Tuyen Quang, the birthplace of the Fatherland, the central dam project of Ha Giang (old) with a total investment of 330 billion VND, was started in February 2023.
The project includes the construction of dams, management and operation bridges combined with traffic of more than 123m in length, along with the approach roads at both ends of the bridge nearly 63m long, ensuring smooth connection.
The dam has the largest height of 17.5m, keeping the water level of the Lo River in the construction area up to about 6m, while creating a 7km long reservoir with an area of nearly 54ha and a capacity of about 2.2 million m3.
The project designs 3 spillways with hydraulic xi-lyfting equipment, allowing seasonal flow regulation.
The construction volume includes more than 26,670m3 of concrete, 505 tons of equipment steel and 2,550 tons of construction steel.
According to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper in early October 2025, at the construction site, units are urgently completing the overflowing ground, while deploying bridge piers and other important auxiliary items.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huy (Ha Giang 1 ward) shared that when he learned about the project's implementation and construction, the people were very happy and looking forward to the project being completed soon.
"In addition to the effect of raising water, the project is also expected to create a landscape highlight, attract tourists and contribute to improving the living environment," Mr. Huy added.

When the reservoir is formed, it will create conditions for the development of additional service activities associated with the water surface, bringing long-term benefits.
Previously, informing the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, the Ha Giang Province Construction Investment Project Management Board (now Tuyen Quang Province) said that the project is expected to be completed in 2025.
When put into operation, the dam will stabilize the water level of the Lo River, regulate the climate, improve the ecosystem, and support the development of tourism associated with water surface space.
In addition, when used, the traffic bridge on the dam will connect National Highway 2 with the old Southern Ring Road of Ha Giang, improving transportation capacity, contributing to completing infrastructure and serving the travel needs of the people.
