On the afternoon of September 26, the Propaganda Department of Binh Thuan Provincial Party Committee chaired and coordinated with the Department of Information and Communications and the Provincial Journalists Association to organize a September press conference, providing information on hot issues to the press.
Recently, heavy rains caused water from the high hills on Vo Nguyen Giap Street (706B) to overflow, carrying red sand from along 706B Street down to Nguyen Thong Street, Phan Thiet, causing local flooding. The strong flood carried a large amount of red sand down to the road, sweeping away people and motorbikes, affecting people's property. Many incidents like this have occurred continuously over the past month.
The previous cause was determined to be that the rainwater drainage system in the area had not been connected to the drainage line of exit 1, road 706B, so the overflowing water carried red sand and mud from the high hills down to the low hills.
Regarding this, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Trung - Deputy Director of the Management Board of Investment and Construction of Civil and Industrial Works of Binh Thuan Province - said: After the units urgently constructed, working day and night, by September 25, the construction was completed and connected to the drainage system of Phan Thiet City to ensure drainage for the area, avoiding sand overflows on Nguyen Thong Street. If it rains, rainwater will flow into the pipes and out to sea.
The Drainage Project downstream of DT.706B road - exit 1, Phu Hai ward (in the area of Nguyen Thong street) includes 1 construction package and was implemented from August 2010 to December 2014. Previously, the project had completed the construction of collector line 1 and collector line 2; the drainage line 3 has not been completed at the end of the route due to compensation for land clearance of 3 households, so it has not been connected to the drainage system of Phan Thiet City People's Committee to drain to the sea.
On August 28, 2024, a new household agreed to continue construction. On September 25, the project was completed and connected.
The completion of the Drainage Project downstream of DT.706B road - exit 1 and connection to the drainage system of Phan Thiet city so that rainwater can drain into the sea, without sand overflow, has relieved the expectations of the local people. Since then, people no longer have to live in fear when it rains heavily, especially at night. At the same time, it has stopped sand overflow affecting restaurants and people's businesses.
