The workshop was directed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MOCST) - Vietnam Digital Communications Association, assigned to the Press Department.
Speaking at the opening of the Workshop, Mr. Phan Xuan Thuy, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department, said that amending and supplementing the Press Law is extremely necessary to perfect legal regulations to institutionalize the Party's policies and guidelines on journalism; overcome limitations and inadequacies in current press law regulations.
The amendment and supplementation of the Press Law aims to adjust and manage press activities appropriately in the context of the strong and rapid development of modern science, technology and communication, creating a legal corridor for press activities to develop in the digital age.
At the workshop "Improving the law for press development in the digital age", representatives of ministries, departments, branches, National Assembly deputies, leaders of central and Hanoi press agencies, media experts, journalists, scientists, lawyers... will focus on discussing 3 major contents:
First, in the context of arranging and streamlining press agencies, how to build a model of a Press and Media Complex to promote efficiency and sustainable development. Develop a model of journalism combination, international experience.
Second, the issue of how to link the activities of press agencies to promote social resources to develop press agencies.
Third, the press is competing increasingly fiercely with social networks and cross-border platforms for the speed and extent of information dissemination. In what direction should the legal regulations be improved so that press agencies can compete for information, orientation, and information guidance in cyberspace?
The seminar aims to collect comments to complete the legal system, propose specific regulations, comment on drafting the Press Law (amended) before submitting to the Government and the National Assembly for consideration and approval. The seminar took place in the special context of the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025).
The leaders of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee expressed their hope that the Workshop would receive comments from delegates to complete the draft Law on Journalism (amended), creating a legal corridor for press activities to develop in the digital age.
