On June 18, the Fire Prevention and Fighting and Rescue Police Department (PCCC and CNCH) (C07 - Ministry of Public Security) informed that in the first 5 months of the year, there were 1,497 fires nationwide, killing 39 people and injuring 39 people, causing estimated property damage of about 138 billion VND and 216 hectares of forest.
There were 11 explosions nationwide, killing 5 people and injuring 14 others. Property damage is estimated at about 50 billion VND.
In the first 5 months of the year, the fire prevention and rescue police forces of local police dispatched 904 vehicles and 5,439 officers and soldiers directly participating in 412 rescue operations. Organized the rescue of 337 people and found 218 bodies to hand over to the authorities for handling.
In the fire fighting work, the fire prevention and fighting and rescue police force nationwide dispatched 6,342 vehicles and 36,097 officers and soldiers to fight 1,074/1,508 fires and explosions. Guided hundreds of stranded people to safety, directly rescued 264 people in fires, organized the movement of assets and saved assets worth more than 65 billion VND. On-site forces and people extinguished 428 fires.
According to C07, compared to the first 5 months of 2024, the number of fires decreased by 485 cases (down 24.47%), the number of injured increased by 11 people (up 39.3%), property damage increased by nearly 5 billion VND (up 3.7%); the number of explosions increased by 3 cases, deaths from explosions increased by 4 people, and injuries increased by 6 people.
C07 analyzed that the fires were mainly in urban areas, accounting for 54.8%, the rest were in rural areas. There were 539 fires in houses; 94 fires in houses combined with production and business; 41 fire in apartments; 10 fires in markets; 3 fires in supermarkets and department stores; 4 fires in bars and karaoke bars; 11 fires in offices; 132 fires in vehicles; 216 fires in warehouses and production and business establishments; 5 fires in educational facilities; 3 fires in defense establishments...
The police have investigated and clarified the cause of 863 cases, accounting for 57.2%. In which, the main cause is due to system and equipment failure, accounting for 73.6%. The remaining causes are careless use of fire sources, heat sources and technical problems.
