On December 17, at the press conference to inform about the socio-economic situation in 2024 and the direction and tasks in 2025 of Dong Nai province, Mr. Nguyen Van Thang - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Nai province informed about illegal exploitation of Long Thanh protective forest.

On August 14, 2024, Long Thanh Protective Forest Management Board discovered acts of destruction of protective forests occurring at lots 17 and 20 in compartment 5, sub-area 223. This is an area managed by Long Thanh Protective Forest Management Board.

After the discovery, local forest rangers coordinated with the People's Procuracy of Nhon Trach district, the Economic and Environmental Crime Investigation Police Team - Nhon Trach District Police, the Land Registration Office of Dong Nai province - Nhon Trach District Branch and other relevant agencies to inspect the scene, measure and determine the area of ​​destroyed forest to be 4,678 m2, the destroyed forest was a protective forest planted with mangrove trees since 1993.

The violator is Mr. N.B.H, residing in Phuoc An commune, Nhon Trach district. Currently, the police are handling and carrying out the procedures.

At the request of the investigation agency, the agricultural sector conducted an assessment of forest damage.

"Currently, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Nai province has established a team of forensic experts to coordinate with the investigation agency to assess the damage, from which there will be a direction for handling and verifying whether this subject was affected by any other subject," Mr. Thang added.

Previously, as reported, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dong Nai province transferred the case to Nhon Trach District Police to investigate and clarify the case of illegal exploitation of protective forests that occurred near Phuoc An port, Nhon Trach district.
