Nearly 5 months after the groundbreaking day (March 11, 2026), the construction site of the new Binh Thanh bridge in Binh Dien commune, Hue city is entering the peak construction phase. According to reporters of Lao Dong Newspaper, many construction fronts are being deployed simultaneously on the bridge deck and the area at both ends of the access road. Drilling machines, cranes, barges and dozens of engineers and workers are working continuously to take advantage of favorable weather before entering the rainy and storm season.
Binh Thanh bridge has a total investment of more than 75 billion VND from the local budget, built to replace the existing Binh Thanh suspension bridge across the Huu Trach River - upstream of the Perfume River. The project has a total length of about 500m, of which the bridge section is 254.5m long, 8.5m wide, including 6 Super T girder spans; approach roads at both ends of the bridge are 9m wide, and invest in lighting, drainage and synchronous items.
According to the progress report of the Hue City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board, by the end of July 2026, the project has completed all drilled piles of two abutments and five bridge piers; completed 18/24 Super T beams; completed abutment M1, abutment base M2, piers T1 to T4, is constructing pier body T5 and has installed beams for the first spans.
Accumulated realized value reached more than 33.4 billion VND, equivalent to about 60.9% of the construction value. The investor assessed that the contractor basically ensured overall progress.
However, the report also pointed out a bottleneck that the road section is still being implemented slowly. This is an item that plays a decisive role in connecting the bridge with National Highway 49 and the regional traffic system.
The cause was determined to be the difficulty in coordinating embankment soil from abutment M2 to M1 because there is no transportation road; while the soil source utilized from service roads and casting yards is still serving construction, affecting the progress of the road section.
According to the plan in August, the contractor will continue to cast 5 more Super T beams to increase the total number to 21/24 beams; complete pier T5, abutment M2; launch and install spans 3, 4, 5 and fill granulated material in the abutment area M2.
The early completion of the project is considered an urgent requirement when the existing Binh Thanh suspension bridge has seriously deteriorated after about 25 years of operation. This is a cable-stayed suspension bridge, many items are old, while every day it still has to bear a large number of vehicles passing by, connecting residential areas with National Highway 49.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong - a resident who regularly crosses the bridge - shared: "Every time we cross the suspension bridge, we feel anxious, especially in the upcoming rainy and storm season, when the water is high and the wind is strong, we are even more worried. We just hope the new bridge will be completed soon so that travel is safer and more secure, and there will be no more worries every time we cross the river.
The Hue City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board said that it is requesting the contractor to focus manpower and equipment, closely follow the progress to complete the project before December 31, 2026. If this goal is achieved, the construction time will be reduced to about 1 year, instead of being extended according to the initial plan.
