On July 13, Hue City Police said that from July 9 to 11, Hue City Police simultaneously deployed a peak period of collecting DNA biological samples of relatives of unidentified martyrs at 9 locations in the area, serving the construction of a national DNA database.
According to Hue City Police, through review, the whole city has nearly 2,200 relatives of martyrs who are eligible to receive DNA biological samples according to regulations. The activity aims to serve comparison and identify the remains of martyrs who lack information.
The sample collection was implemented in the communes of Khe Tre, Phu Loc, A Luoi 2, Quang Dien and the wards of Phu Bai, Phong Dien, Huong Tra, Phu Xuan, and Thuan Hoa.
To ensure convenience for people, the police force coordinates to review and update personal information on the National Population Database, and at the same time establish working groups to go to homes to collect samples for cases of old age, weakness or difficulty walking.
Many relatives of martyrs expressed emotion when participating in taking DNA samples, hoping that the construction of the database will open up more opportunities to identify relatives who have sacrificed after decades of waiting.
According to Hue City Police, the entire process of collecting, sealing and preserving biological samples is strictly carried out according to technical procedures to ensure accuracy in the subsequent comparison process.
The collection of DNA biological samples not only contributes to completing the national DNA database but also serves the search, repatriation, and identification of martyrs' remains, meeting the aspirations of many families with meritorious services to the revolution.
