On the evening of August 30, Le Thuy Commune People's Committee (Quang Tri province) said that the organizing committee had agreed on the form of handling of collectives and individuals involved in the scuffle that occurred at the traditional boat racing and swimming festival on the Kien Giang River.
Accordingly, all competition achievements of the 2 units in the group stage swimming session on the morning of August 30 were cancelled. The teams ranked behind were upgraded according to the competition results.
For violating individuals, the organizing committee decided to revoke the right to compete for 6 athletes, including 1 athlete from Loc Ha team and 5 athletes from Van Xa team.
Previously, as Lao Dong Newspaper reported, during the competition in the group stage swimming session, some athletes of the 2 teams had conflicts, leading to clashes while competing on the Kien Giang River.
Some athletes used paddles to fight, and during the incident, someone fell into the river.
Immediately after the incident, functional forces and the organizing committee were present to stabilize the situation. The two teams then continued the competition. The organizing committee also considered and clarified the actions of related individuals to propose forms of handling.
The traditional boat racing and swimming festival on the Kien Giang River is a cultural activity held annually on the occasion of the August Revolution and National Day September 2nd, attracting people and tourists to watch and cheer.
