On the morning of August 30, on the East bank of the Han River bridge, the Da Nang City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism opened the Da Nang City Traditional Boat Racing Open Tournament.
The tournament is held annually on the occasion of the August Revolution and National Day 2. This year is the first time the tournament has taken place after Da Nang city and Quang Nam province merged. Therefore, the number of participating teams has increased.
The tournament has 19 boat teams with 323 athletes. Including 13 men's teams and 6 women's teams. Many teams come from the former Quang Nam region such as Dai Loc, Duy Xuyen, Dien Ban and Thang Binh.
The teams compete on the Han River, with each lap calculated from the Han River turning bridge to the Dragon bridge. Men's boats compete for a distance of 7.5 km. Women's boats compete for a distance of 4.5 km.
For athletes, the race is not only an opportunity to compete but also contributes to training health and rowing skills. The Thuong Duc commune racing team said that many members are people from areas frequently affected by floods. Rowing training both serves competition and helps proactively respond to the flood season.
The race attracted a large number of people to watch and cheer. Many people from neighboring localities moved from early morning to immerse themselves in the festival atmosphere.
According to the Da Nang City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the race is one of the activities to celebrate National Day 2. 9. The event contributes to preserving and promoting traditional cultural and sports values and promoting the image of dynamic, friendly, and rich in identity Da Nang.
Also on the morning of August 30, at 29/3 Square, Da Nang city organized a response program "Joining Vietnam to Advance". Thousands of people from the police, military, youth union members, officials, civil servants, public employees and laborers participated in walking around the square.
