On August 10, information from Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV) said that the Board of Directors of the Corporation issued a resolution approving the investment policy for the project to extend the runway and runway of Vinh International Airport by 600m, raising the total length to 3,000m.
The project belongs to group B, a level I traffic project, invested by ACV with a total capital of more than 545 billion VND from the legal capital of the enterprise, deployed on an area of 67.5 hectares in Vinh Hung ward, Nghe An. Preparations will start from the third quarter of 2025, start construction in the fourth quarter of 2025 and be completed within 6 months from the handover of the site.

Currently, the airport runway is 2,400m long, only accommodating narrow-body aircraft such as the A320/A321. After the extension, the airport is qualified to operate wide-body, long-range aircraft such as Boeing 787, 777 or Airbus A350, serving international or transcontinental flights.
From July 1 to December 31, 2025, Vinh airport will temporarily suspend flights to construct 3 major projects including: repairing runways and taxiways, renovating - expanding parking lots and T1 passenger terminal. The extension of the runway is expected to improve exploitation capacity and meet future air transport demand.
