On June 13, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee said it had received an official dispatch from the Ministry of Construction on extending the Vinh airport runway, accordingly, the Ministry basically agreed with the plan proposed by the locality and Vietnam Airports Corporation (ACV).
According to the Ministry of Construction, the investment in extending the Vinh airport runway from 2,400m to 3,000m is in line with the Master Plan for the airport system for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050. It is expected that the runway will be extended by 600m towards the beginning of 17, and a wheel system will be added.
Currently, ACV is implementing a project to repair Vinh airport runway and taxiway using capital for aviation infrastructure maintenance invested and managed by the State. According to the plan, Vinh airport will temporarily close from July to December 2025 to serve the construction.

Nghe An Provincial People's Committee proposed to simultaneously deploy the extension of the runway during the time ACV repaired the entire system, in order to save time and resources. The province also committed to allocating funds and carrying out site clearance work.
In case the central budget cannot meet the requirements, ACV and Nghe An province have agreed: if approved by competent authorities, ACV will proactively arrange legal capital to invest in extending the runway and adding a taxiway.
The Ministry of Construction affirmed that the Vinh airport runway - taxiway system is an infrastructure asset invested by the State, assigned to ACV for management and not included in equitized capital. Supplementary investment according to the plan can use state budget or corporate capital.
With the investment scope being the extension of the runway and the rolling road system, if ACV allocates capital itself, the authority to approve the investment policy belongs to the People's Committee of Nghe An province.
Up to now, Nghe An Provincial People's Committee has completed site clearance for the construction of the Vinh airport runway and taxiway repair project.
