On September 16, the People's Committee of Khe Sanh commune coordinated with the Huong Hoa Forest Protection Department to organize the handover of a Java pangolin to the Center for Rescue, Conservation and Development of Organisms - Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park Management Board for timely rescue, care, and treatment.
Previously, the Java pangolin individual was voluntarily handed over to functional agencies by Mr. Le Viet Ha, residing in Nam Hao residential group, Dong Ha ward, Quang Tri province.
The Java pangolin individual belongs to group IB - a group of endangered, precious, and rare forest animals prioritized for protection, weighing 3.8kg.
Through inspection, functional forces determined that the pangolin was injured in all 4 legs, the body was in a state of exhaustion, limited mobility. Therefore, this individual was urgently handed over for treatment, medical care and recovery before considering re-release to the natural environment according to regulations.
The voluntary handover of rare and precious wild animals by people makes an important contribution to the conservation of biodiversity, while also demonstrating the awareness and responsibility of the community in protecting endangered animal species.
Khe Sanh Commune People's Committee recommends that when people discover, encounter or are keeping wild animals, they should proactively notify and voluntarily hand them over to functional agencies for guidance, reception and handling according to regulations.
Acts of hunting, trading, transporting, and illegally raising wild animals will be handled according to the provisions of law.
