On the evening of August 3, the Command of Naval Region 5 said that it had urgently mobilized forces to coordinate with An Thoi Port Border Guard Station (An Giang Provincial Border Guard) and vehicles to participate in the search for 2 fishermen suspected of falling into the sea in Phu Quoc.
Previously, at 4:55 pm on the same day, the Command of Naval Region 5 received a notice from An Thoi Port Border Guard Station about fishing vessel AG 62009 TS running in a circle in the area about 2.7 nautical miles southwest of Mui Dat Do (Phu Quoc Island) but without a driver. According to initial information, when leaving the port, there were 2 people on board, so it is suspected that the two fishermen fell into the sea.
Immediately after receiving the information, Naval Region 5 mobilized Boat 2203 to maneuver to the scene; and at the same time mobilized Boat 637, which was performing a mission at sea, to quickly approach the search area.
At 5:45 PM, Naval Region 5 forces coordinated with An Thoi Port Border Guard Station to approach fishing vessel AG 62009 TS. On board at this time were 3 fishermen from vehicles fishing nearby who boarded the vessel before functional forces arrived.
According to fishermen, at about 5 pm on the same day, during fishing in this area, they discovered fishing vessel AG 62009 TS running in a circle but without control, so they approached. Suspecting that 2 fishermen on the vessel had been swept into the sea by fishing nets, they boarded the vessel to check and reported to functional forces.
By the evening of August 3, Naval Region 5 was still continuing to coordinate with An Thoi Port Border Guard Station and about 20 fishing boats operating in the area to urgently search for 2 fishermen suspected of falling into the sea.
