On May 14, the Military Command (CHQS) of An Giang province organized the announcement and awarding of extraordinary commendation decisions to collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in participating in forest fire fighting in Co To commune.
Accordingly, the Provincial Military Command commended 3 collectives and 21 individuals of Regiment 892, Regiment 893, Military Command Boards of communes: Co To, Oc Eo, Nui Cam, O Lam and Tri Ton town for their high sense of responsibility, proactiveness, courage, close coordination, contributing to timely controlling the fire, preventing it from spreading widely.
Previously, on May 5 and 6, 2026, a forest fire occurred in Co To commune in the area of the Provincial Military Forestry Farm. Nearly 300 officers and soldiers from many forces quickly arrived, deployed synchronous fire fighting measures, cordoned off the area, extinguished the fire, stayed at the scene overnight, and promptly controlled the fire.

In the process of performing tasks, the forces encountered many difficulties due to the complex hilly terrain, thick vegetation, prolonged hot weather, and strong winds that caused the fire to spread quickly. The officers and soldiers flexibly divided into many groups and fronts, using water pumps, field fire fighting equipment combined with manual measures such as creating firebreaks, using tree branches to extinguish fires, digging up smoldering fire points under the vegetation. Many officers and soldiers stayed up all night, alternately approaching deep forest fire areas, persistently extinguishing each hot spot, preventing fire from rekindling, ensuring absolute safety for people and property.
Speaking at the award ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Ut Bac, Deputy Head of the Political Department of the Provincial Military Command, authorized by the Head of the Provincial Military Command, praised the courageous spirit, steadfast will and high responsibility of the forces participating in firefighting. The comrade emphasized that in dry weather conditions, high risk of forest fires, proactive forces, vehicles, and close coordination between units are decisive factors to help quickly control the fire, protect forest resources and safety for the people.
The comrade requested that in the coming time, agencies and units continue to do well in training, improve combat readiness, proactively plan for forest fire prevention and control; strengthen coordination with functional forces and local authorities, effectively handle situations, and not be passive or surprised.
Timely commendation has contributed to encouraging and motivating officers and soldiers to continue to promote the spirit of responsibility, be ready to receive and successfully complete all assigned tasks.
