The Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway project with a total investment of nearly 20,000 billion VND is being focused on by the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) to accelerate progress, aiming to start the main item in April 2026.
The expressway has a total length of 51 km, connecting from Ring Road 3 HCMC in Phu Hoa Dong commune to the end point intersecting with National Highway 22 in Ben Cau commune, Tay Ninh province. In phase 1, the project has a scale of 4 lanes, designed for cars to run at a maximum speed of 120 km/h and will be expanded to 6 lanes according to the plan in the future. The entire project is divided into 4 component projects for implementation.

Currently, component project 2 on the construction of people's service roads and level overpasses has made significant progress. Package XL02 (Provincial Road 8 overpass) started construction at the end of 2025 and has completed geological drilling and pile testing, preparing to enter the mass construction phase of roadbed items and bored piles from February 26, 2026. The remaining two packages, XL01 and XL03, are also in the process of technical design approval, and are expected to be started in March and April 2026 respectively after completing bidding work.
For Component Project 1 (construction and installation of expressway according to public-private partnership method - BOT contract), the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has approved the form of investor selection after completing the concern survey. Currently, the Traffic Board is actively completing bidding documents and reviewing the legal status of the project contract. According to the plan, after signing the contract, the investor will start construction of this important item in April 2026.

Site clearance work also recorded a high consensus rate from the people. In Ho Chi Minh City, the compensation payment rate reached more than 80% and handed over 59% of the first phase of the site. Meanwhile, Tay Ninh province has paid compensation of 89.4%, handed over 24.55 km of land out of a total of 26.38 km of the entire route through the province.
When completed and put into operation at the end of 2027, the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai expressway will not only reduce pressure on National Highway 22 but also strengthen inter-regional connectivity. The project plays a strategic role in forming an industrial - urban chain along the Trans-Asia Economic Corridor, creating a driving force for sustainable socio-economic development for the entire Southeast region.
