On the morning of December 19, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee - Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board held a groundbreaking ceremony for component project 2 of the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway construction investment project (phase 1) - package XL02: construction of the Provincial Road 8 overpass.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Anh Minh - Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board said that the Ho Chi Minh City - Moc Bai Expressway construction investment project is a national key project with the goal of meeting the needs of travel, goods circulation, improving transportation efficiency on the National Highway 22. and promoting the socio-economic development of Ho Chi Minh City and Tay Ninh.
Thereby, creating motivation to attract investment in industrial parks, border gate economic zones, and new urban areas along the route; gradually completing the road traffic network according to the plan and contributing to ensuring security and defense.

The project has a total length of about 51 km, of which the section passing through Ho Chi Minh City is about 24.7 km and the section passing through Tay Ninh province is about 26.3 km. The starting point connects with Ring Road 3 (Phu Hoa Dong Commune, Ho Chi Minh City) and the end point connects to National Highway 22 (Ben Cau Commune, Tay Ninh Province).

The project is invested according to the standards of the first phase of the expressway with a scale of 4 complete lanes. The total investment of the project is about VND 19,617 billion.
Mr. Nguyen Thanh Thuan - Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction said that when completed, the expressway will contribute to reducing the load on National Highway 22, enhancing regional connectivity. In particular, the connection with the Phnom Penh - Ba Viet Expressway (Cambodia) is a vital route connecting the capital Phnom Penh with Ba Viet Border Gate, which will create a national transport axis, shorten travel time and enhance trade between the two countries.

At the same time, it contributes to the formation of Moc Bai - Cai Mep industrial urban axis. This is an important strategic orientation in regional development stated in Resolution 24-NQ/TW of the Politburo on Socio-Economic Development of the Southeast region to link Moc Bai Border Gate Economic Zone (Tay Ninh) with Cai Mep - Thi Vai to form a large industrial - urban - logistics service chain, connecting with the Southeast Asian Economic Corridor, promoting economic growth and ensuring national defense and security for the region.
Regarding the scale of site clearance in Ho Chi Minh City, the project is about 24.7km long, passing through 5 communes including: Phu Hoa Dong, Cu Chi, Tan An Hoi, Nhuan Duc, Thai My (formerly in Cu Chi district). The total number of affected cases is about 2,122 cases.
Regarding the scale of site clearance in Tay Ninh province, the project passes through Gia Loc, An Tinh, Go Dau wards, Phuoc Thanh and Ben Cau communes. The total number of affected cases is about 1,629 cases.
