Strong sea waves erode, protective forests gradually disappear
In early December 2025, according to the reporter of Lao Dong Newspaper, the Go Cong sea dike (Dong Thap province) has recently been continuously hit directly by sea waves, especially during the monsoon season, causing many sections to seriously deteriorate. People living along the dike are worried as protective forests are gradually disappearing, strong sea waves are eroding, threatening the safety of their homes and agricultural production areas inside the dike.
Mr. Doan Van Tam - a resident of the Go Cong sea dike (Tan Phu hamlet, Go Cong Dong commune, Dong Thap province) - said that every year during the monsoon season, the waves hit directly, causing some sections of the Go Cong sea dike to deteriorate. "If in the coming time, we do not invest in building breakwaters to protect the dike, there is a risk of landslides and sea water overflowing, directly affecting the people's agricultural production areas," Mr. Tam worried.

As a resident of the Go Cong sea dike, Mr. Vo Hoang Nha (37 years old, residing in Go Cong Dong commune, Dong Thap province) said that the Go Cong sea dike in Tien Giang province (old), now Dong Thap province, has completed more than 8.8 km of wave-reducing dykes, and more than 6.8 km have not been invested in. Due to not being closed, along with the loss of protective forests, the safety of many sections of this dike is being threatened.
Proposal for the Central Government to allocate capital for handling
Regarding the above issue, Mr. Bui Thanh Tung - Head of the Economic Department of Go Cong Dong commune (Dong Thap province) - said that in sections where no tides have been built, the waves will reduce waves every time there is a strong wind during the monsoon season, the waves will directly hit, causing the main dike project to deteriorate. Waves overflowing the dike also affect rice cultivation of many households in the area.
Mr. Tung said that the locality hopes that the authorities will soon consider investing in the remaining dike section, in order to close the entire route and protect the Go Cong sea dike.

According to the investigation of Lao Dong Newspaper reporters, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province has recently issued Official Letter No. 1854 to the Ministry of Finance on supporting the central budget to implement projects to urgently overcome landslides on the banks of Tien River and the coast in Dong Thap province.
According to this document, due to the urgency of landslides, the People's Committee of Dong Thap province proposed that the Ministry of Finance synthesize and submit to the Prime Minister for consideration and funding to implement 3 projects to protect dangerous and urgent landslides, which need to be implemented immediately, including: The project to urgently overcome landslides on the Tien River embankment area to prevent erosion of the Tien River embankment (in Thuong Phuoc commune, Dong Thap province); The project to urgently overcome landslides on the Tien River embankment on Nguyen Huong Street (Tan Tich Hamlet and Tinh Hung Hamlet, Cao Lanh Ward, Dong Thap Province); The Go Cong coastal erosion project (from Ren Ban Do Bridge to Dong Thap Province). The total investment capital for these projects is about 1,166 billion VND from the central budget reserve.
