Do not let modern roads lack minimum service

The Vietnam Road Administration has just issued a telegram on accelerating the progress of investment and business projects for rest stops on the North-South Expressway in the East.

The expressway is built to shorten the journey, but the paradox is happening, many modern roads lack the most basic services.

15/21 stations have partially exploited, but there are still 6 stations "standing still", and even the stations that are operating have not completed basic infrastructure such as roads, parking lots, gas stations or charging stations.

There have been cases where passenger cars were forced to stop on the highway for passengers to "resolve needs", and vehicles running out of fuel in the middle of the road did not know how to manage.

On both sides of some highways, "zero-dollar toilets" have appeared, passengers climb over fences to go to the toilet. Those images are not only offensive, but also pose a serious risk of traffic unsafety.

A true expressway not only has a beautiful and safe road surface, but must come with a complete service ecosystem.

Please note that the rest stop is not a "sub-construction", but a constituent part of the expressway infrastructure. Without rest stops, the expressway cannot operate properly.

The reasons have been pointed out, subjective delays from some investors who are slow to construct, lack decisiveness, and are entangled in procedures but do not proactively remove them.

The April 30 holiday and summer peak of 2026 will lead to a sudden increase in vehicle traffic, what will happen if there are no rest stops on the highway, everyone can imagine.

If rest stops are still unfinished, people will continue to be the losers, more tired, more inconvenient, and even face higher risks on the journey.

It is impossible to let basic needs such as resting, refueling or going to the toilet become a "lucky problem" on the highway.

Therefore, in the face of the current situation, the role of the management agency at this time is not only to urge, but must be accompanied by strong enough sanctions.

Investors who are behind schedule need to be strictly handled, even considered for replacement if they do not meet the requirements.

Discipline in infrastructure investment must be put first, because behind each delay are thousands and millions of vehicles and people affected.

The expressway is not only a road connecting destinations, but also a measure of the service quality of national infrastructure. Don't let trillion-dong projects "lose points" because they lack the most basic things.

People do not demand too much, just a place to stop in the true sense.
