Deciding to end the trip early to return to share condolences with a neighboring family in mourning, many families in Thai Nguyen did not expect the trip to end in tragedy when a passenger car crashed on the Phap Van - Cau Gie highway, killing 4 people and injuring dozens.
Regarding the particularly serious traffic accident that occurred in the early morning of July 17 on the Phap Van - Cau Gie highway, passing through Chuong Duong commune (Hanoi City), many people are still in shock when recalling the moment the passenger car plunged off the highway.
According to the accounts of some victims, on the occasion of summer vacation, many families living in the same hamlet organized a trip to Thien Cam beach (Ha Tinh). The delegation departed on July 15 and was expected to return to Thai Nguyen on the morning of July 17.
However, because the family of a person in the neighborhood had a funeral, the whole group decided to end the holiday early to go home. Fearing that moving at night could pose a risk of unsafety, everyone sent someone to sit next to the driver to chat, helping to stay awake throughout the journey.
However, no one expected that the trip would result in a painful accident. When the car was traveling on the highway, many sleeping passengers suddenly woke up startled by loud shouts. The car then overturned and slid down the road before falling onto the service road below.
Leaders of Thuong Tin General Hospital said that immediately after receiving information about the accident, the unit activated an emergency alarm system, mobilizing about 15 medical staff, including doctors and nurses from the on-duty teams and many departments and rooms to participate in rescuing victims.
Among the cases admitted to the hospital, an 18-year-old victim suffered severe bruises on his arms and legs. After first aid, the patient was transferred to Viet Duc Friendship Hospital for further intensive treatment.
Another case was also transferred to another hospital after the blood pressure stabilized. In addition, some patients with severe injuries to the chest and abdomen are being specially monitored. People with abrasions or minor injuries have been transferred to the Department of Surgery for further treatment and psychological stabilization.
Previously, at about 0:20 on July 17, a sleeper bus with license plate 20C-117. XX, driven by driver Nguyen Van B. (born in 1983, residing in Thai Nguyen province), was traveling on the Phap Van - Cau Gie - Cao Bo - Mai Son - National Highway 45 - Nghi Son expressway in the direction of Nghe An - Hanoi.
When reaching Km197+900 in Chuong Duong commune, the car suddenly rushed to the right, knocking down the guardrail and protective railing before falling into the service road below from a height of about 3.5-4.2 m.
The accident killed 4 people, including 3 victims who died on the spot and 1 person who died at the hospital. 28 injured people were taken to the emergency room at the General Hospital of Agriculture, Thuong Tin General Hospital and Viet Duc Friendship Hospital.
After the incident occurred, functional forces checked the driver's alcohol and drug concentration but did not detect any violations. Currently, the cause of the accident is being further investigated and clarified by functional agencies.
